The groundbreaking band play with a fierce energy, leaving no audience member untouched. The brainchild of saxophonist Signe Emmeluth, the music benefits from her wild but perfectly executed leaps of intuition, in far-flung melodies and styles that turn on a hair from playful to primal. The Danish/Norwegian quartet consisting of four of the most exciting musicians on the Scandinavian scene right now, having performed in bands such as Efterklang, Megalodon Collective, Thurston Moore Group, PNL Large Unit and Aperture, to name a few. At the center of the band we find band leader, composer and saxophonist Signe Emmeluth.

Signe Emmeluth is a Danish saxophone player, composer and improviser currently based in Oslo. She graduated from the NTNU Jazz Department, Trondheim in 2017. In recent years, Signe has marked herself as a growing voice on the scene for improvised music and she has become an important part of the music environment in Scandinavia through her playing and composing for her own band Emmeluth’s Amoeba as well as when playing solo. She’s been collaborating with Mats Gustafsson, Kresten Osgood and Paal Nilssen-Love among others and is part of Gard Nilssen’s Supersonic Orchestra and is seen in different versions of Trondheim Jazz Orchestra. With a sharp and unique tone her playing is easily recognised - melodies with rapidly changing octaves and a shift between the naive and playful to brutal primal screams are some of what makes up Signe Emmeluth’s vocabulary.

Signe received the prestigious JazZtipendiat 20/21 and premiered the work Physicality in/emotion for Trondheim Jazz Orchestra at Moldejazz 2021. In 2021 she was given the price “De Unges Lindeman” by Maja S.K. Ratkje. In 2022 she premiered her commission work Banshee at Vossa Jazz. In 2024 she premiered her newest piece for larger ensemble ALT at Borealis, a festival for experimental music.

This young Danish alto saxophonist (based in Oslo) is an exceptional discovery.
Matthieu Joaun, Citizenjazz
With jazz-based improvisation, it could very easily descend into a bound up cacophony; but here there is subtlety, charm and a shared love of joyful noise that induces smiles and surprises in equal measure.
Øra Fonogram, Freq
There was a stunning set from Emmeluth’s Amoeba in the Storyville Jazz Club, racing through a series of hyperventilating compositions that clearly matched pre-ordained complexity with lightning intuition. [...] Emmeluth a dynamo of endless permutations and complex veerings.
