Phil Ware Trio

Phil Ware - piano

Irish musicians take centre stage as Trio3 turns its attention to emerging voices closer to home, with two trios amply demonstrating that a new generation of jazz pianists is ready to take up the baton as it passes on from senior figures like Noel Kelehan. Phil Ware and Greg Felton both find themselves in working groups, compelling proof in itself of the high ambition that is blossoming on the Irish jazz scene, and both have emerged from the creative foment of the jazz programme at Blackrock's Newpark Music Centre, whose director Ronan Guilfoyle also performs here. Evidence, featuring Felton, Guilfoyle and the prodigious talents of drummer Sean Carpio, hit a rich rhythmic seam as they mine the repertoire of Thelonious Monk, whose music continues to fascinate and inspire successive generations. Further names to conjure with in the confident stride of bassist Dave Redmond and drummer Kevin Brady, who enhance the swinging authenticity of Phil Ware, as they present a programme of archly restructured Broadway standard and original compositions from this equally gifted Irish based pianist.
