Huw Warren must be one of the most lyrical pianists around and his playing is the most delicate and subtle imaginable” – John Potter

Welsh pianist Huw Warren is a composer and educator whose considerable body of work spans a veritable panoply of genres. A prolific collaborator, Warren’s extensive catalogue over the years has brought a unique flair and musical intelligence to the British jazz scene. Warren’s distinctive, lyrical sound coupled with his innovative and eclectic approach to the piano has afforded him an international reputation. He has been a recipient of the BBC Jazz Award for Innovation as well as the ACW Creative Wales Award.

Warren liberally marries the musical vocabulary of jazz, world and contemporary music and his compositions & improvisations are known to move between quirky rhythmic grooves that underpin a simple yet profound melodic beauty. Even at his most experimental, Warren’s music is fun and approachable. With the forthcoming release of his first solo album since ‘Infinite Riches in a Little Room’ in 2002, this solo performance is a great opportunity to capture a seasoned improviser at the top of his game. Huw Warren’s thoughtful and exploratory musical creations, fusions and collaborations have long been a gift to the numerous artists and writers with whom he’s worked” – Troubadour

Huw's early musical experiences began as a cellist and organist in South Wales before he left to study piano with experimental pianist John Tilbury at Goldsmiths, University of London and later at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. In London he became highly involved in jazz and avant-garde scenes. In his career he has been involved in several projects, his jazz quartet Perfect Houseplants, the duo Dialektos and a nine piece with strings and penny whistle called A Barrel organ Far From Home are just a few. Warren has performed and collaborated with many musicians including June Tabor, Mark Feldman, Peter Herbert, Joanna Macgreggor, Iain Ballamy, Kenny Wheeler, Jim Black and more as well as writing for many ensembles including Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Welsh Chamber Orchestra and the National Youth Brass Band of Wales.
