Yorudni Septet
As described in the memoirs of Dmitri Shostakovich, the Yurodni were travelling poets and bards who collectively embodied the folk music of pre-Stalinist Russia. This ambitious project, lead by the ever productive Nick Roth, explores the compositional aspect of this rich seam of music, in a new group based around a string quartet augmented by horn and rhythms sections. With Adrian Hart and Simone Mendonca (violins), Kate Ellis (cello), Dave Redmond (bass), Nick Roth (saxophones), Colm O’Hara (trombone) and Phil MacMullan (drums)
