Vocal and bass duo TamTam (with Anett Tamm and Karl Tammaru) from Estonia bring influences from art pop and electronica into a colourful musical palette, which fuses expressive vocals and euphonious bass grooves into dreamy nocturnes.
TamTam is the vocal and bass duo of Estonian musicians Anett Tamm and Karl Tammaru, which fuses expressive vocals and euphonious bass grooves into dreamy nocturnes with a wild spirit. Making meaningful and genre-defying music without compromising compositional versatility is the duo’s main forte, despite the lack of additional rhythmic and harmonic support. The duo has performed at venues across Estonia and festivals Tudengijazz, Viljandi Rütmifestival, Tallinn Music Week, Live at Heart (Sweden) and Kori Jazz (Finland). In Spring 2023 TamTam released their whimsy debut album “Slumber Picture”.
Working within the spare line-up of two instruments, the pair are constantly inventive in their writing and arrangements, building a dreamy palette of abundant colours. Their work is charaterized by sincerity and nuance, using the simple pared-back sound to dive deep into the emotional message of their music.
As a vocalist, Anett performs in the avant-garde ensemble IHA, led by Raimond Mägi, and in the alt-jazz group The Nonconceptual Art Club. Anett has been collaborating with the French trio David Chevallier Trio since 2021 and performed in several special projects including Kirke Karja’s “Sireenid” and “Valter Ojakäär 100” tribute concerts. With her various ensembles, she has performed at festivals and venues in Estonia, Greece, Croatia, Latvia, Lithuania, Sweden, Finland and Germany.
In the spring of 2022, Anett was awarded the Estonian Jazz Awards Young Jazz Talent prize. Anett holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Music cum laude in jazz and improvised music from the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre and has also studied at the Academy of Music in Cologne.
