Jazz Vocalist and songwriter Cormac Kenevey was born in Dublin and introduced to jazz at a very early age by his pianist father. He took early influence from recordings of Mel Tormé, Peggy Lee and Mark Murphy amongst many others. For a young singer, his mature delivery and heartfelt interpretations display a great regard for those artists whom he cites as major vocal heros, while achieving his own personal style. Cormac began studying classical clarinet at the age of 12 and was subsequently involved in many ensembles as a clarinettist including the Royal Irish Academy of Music Symphony Orchestra. Later, at University (while pursuing a degree in geography and archaeology) he became director and conductor of the University College Dublin Concert Band. He also played drums and sang with the Dublin pop/rock band Milestone.

He began his working life in the business world, soon establishing himself as a successful software consultant. However, he finally decided to follow his musical dreams and, at the age of 25, he abandoned his day job to become a full-time musician. He recorded his debut albumThis Is Living, which was released on the London label CANDID records in June of 2006. The album received glowing reviews from both domestic and international critics.

In 2009 Cormac produced The Art of Dreaming; his second album. This new collection features interesting lyrical compositions by Cormac alongside a variety of standards. It also includes a salute to the electronic pop group, Moloko, on a track where he reproduces all of the instrumentation with vocal layering alone. The new record boasts an accomplished production crew including Grammy award-winning, mastering engineer, Bob Katz, and the accomplished UK-born pianist, Phil Ware.

He performs regularly across Ireland and the UK with his band. He has been a favourite at the Cork Jazz Festival (Ireland), the Marbella Jazz Festival (Spain), has appeared on national radio in Ireland and the UK and sold out critically acclaimed shows at Pizza Express Jazz Club in London amongst many others. His 2008 schedule began with the launch of The Art Of Dreaming CD in March followed by his tour of the UK and Ireland. He performed at the world famous Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club in London in May. Hel also appeared at the 2008 Dubai International Jazz Festival, Abu Dhabi jazz festival and with the National Concert Orchestra in Dublin.

Along with his domestic and international gigging schedule for 2009, Cormac acheived a First Class Masters Degree in Jazz Music Performance where he specialised in the tradition of Vocalese in Jazz and also the vocal style of American jazz singer, Mark Murphy (for more visit 'curios' page of this site). Appearances in 2010 included his Irish representation at the EuroJazz Festival in Mexico.
