For the second edition of IMC’s flagship Signal Series at Arthur’s Blues & Jazz Club, our artists have been influenced by life and music in warmer climates. Tudo Bem! explores the rich melodies and grooves of Brazilian music, with some of the finest Irish-based players of the jazz and Brazilian idioms. Recently returned from two years in Valencia, Spain, Jennifer McMahon’s blend of jazz, soul and folk is absorbed with the juxtapositions of life’s extremities - an aural oneness of opposites.

Performing with guitarist Darren Giles, bassist Brian Byrne, and drummer Aaron McHugh, Jennifer McMahon is a songwriter, vocalist, instrumentalist and producer from Dublin, who has recently returned to Ireland following her years in Spain and her Masters studies at Berklee College of Music. Her recent project 'Part of the Whole', written in the grieving process of losing a parent and the end of a relationship. The project seeks to find the understanding that 'we're all in this together' while offering homage to her musical influences of soul, folk and jazz. At the moment she is working on a newer project, 'Laniakea'. If the former project is an inward search for understanding, the latter may be its outward-searching counterpart.

Brazilian music has been a passion of bassist and composer Ronan Guilfoyle for many years. As Tudo Bem!, he brings together musicians including vocalist Aleka Potinga, guitarist Chris Guilfoyle, pianist Leopoldo Osio, and drummer Andre Antunes to play classic Brazilian pieces, known and loved the world over. Outside Brazil, people often think of Brazilian music as being confined to Bossa Nova, but this is only one small part of the huge tradition of Brazilian music and Tudo Bem! explores a range of styles as well as many of Brazil’s greatest composers. With music by Toninho Horta, Caetano Veloso, Joao Bosco, and more, above all expect the joyous, infectious rhythms and grooves of Brazil played with an authentic, celebratory feel.

Part of our commitment to celebrating Irish-based jazz talent in 2019 and beyond, the Signal Series is a live monthly double-header concert series from IMC presenting the best emerging and established jazz acts from across Ireland.
